TROY – A new dive bar is coming to Troy, filling the vacancy of what was once known as “The Brewery.” Locals let out a collective sigh of relief with news of a brand new spot to get completely wasted in the downtown area.
Schafty’s III, the newest expansion of Tipp City’s most popular bar, will be taking over the Brewery building in early September. Schafty’s has a great reputation for encouraging drunk driving, and will be located conveniently across the street from the Miami County Jail.
According to August Schafty, CEO and founder of Schafty’s Entertainment Group, this new location will feature “everything you could want at a bar.” The new location is equipped with 10 draught lines, a dart board, a billiards table sourced from Craigslist, a drunk driving stunt track, and a patio that, “isn’t really allowed due to the food and beverage code, but I won’t tell if you won’t” Schafty said in an exclusive email to MCBC staff.
For their soft launch, Schafty’s III will offer patrons $0.50 well shots and $4 buckets of Coors Ice. For an extra dollar, customers are able to upgrade the bucket to Bud Ice tallboys. Alongside this, Schafty’s Drunk Driving Stunt Track, which is really a square block of public roads blocked off with cones, will be free for anyone who could blow over 0.2 BAC. With the strong police presence, this new location may not carry the same reckless reputation as the original.
Despite excitement around the new location, locals are confused as to why this new bar is called Schafty’s III, as the only other known location is in Tipp. According to Schafty, this is actually the third location of his infamous pub. The first location was at 13 E Elm Street in Tipp City, but due to a lack of city approval, the bar was quickly shut down and remained that way until officially opening with city approval in 2019.
The early September launch party will feature live music from Wake Me Up When August Ends – the owner’s Green Day cover band. Schafty’s III is widely anticipated to be the “hottest place to be in downtown Troy.”
