TROY – Eastside Mini Mart, in collaboration with the Miami County Bugle Caller, is announcing plans to be the first local gas station to offer $2 gallons of gas in 2022.
The low price will be soft launched on Monday, June 6th, but limits customers to only 4 gallons per person.
“We’re pretty far out here on our own. Not that many people have business in east Troy, and I just want to make sure the people aren’t forgettin’ about us,” said owner Light Silver Jr.
In order to take advantage of this enticing offer, customers will need to present a coupon at the time of purchase. Coupons will be sent out in the Sunday print edition of the Miami County Bugle Caller, which can be found at newsstands across the Miami Valley.
The business tactic is expected to bring an overwhelming wave of customers through the store, with hopes that add-ons such as ice cold beer and cigarettes will help offset the losses for such low priced gas.
The idea was inspired by a Los Angeles gas station that offered $1.75 gas after rebate. However, the rebate box was hidden at the top of a mountain and 0 customers redeemed the rebate. This proved the model could succeed, and Eastside Mini Mart is hoping to tackle this in similar fashion.
“There are a few conditions to the $2 gas. Again, you can only get 4 gallons per person per visit, but you must also spend at least $10 inside the store and leave a 5-star review on Google,” said Silver Jr.
“The discount is also only available for ethanol blend gasoline, and must be redeemed on days where demand for gasoline is below average. A sign will be posted outside the Troy-Miami County Public Library when the promotion is actually available. You can also check the status of this by calling 882-524-9867, then press 2, 5, 3, 7, and then wait for the digital voice to ask for your passcode. You’ll then type 6-5-1, and you should get an update on the promotion from our digital operator.”
While the employees expect confused and generally annoyed customers, they’re ready to take on some heat to help the business succeed.
“I’d put my life on the line for this place. I make minimum wage and owe every bit of my very existence to this company,” said Sherri Krystal Smith, 56, of Troy. “I’m proud that we will be the only gas station to offer $2 gallons around here.”
The Miami County Bugle Caller strongly recommends treating Eastside Mini Mart employees kindly through this promotion, and to send any complaints directly to our comment section for our unpaid interns to deal with.
