TROY – Stop in at the former Family Video on the corner of Main St. and Ridge Ave. this weekend to get a chance to smell an amorphophallus titanum plant, also known as a ‘corpse flower.’ Dax Bramowitz, a local botanist, has been waiting for 8 years to let the public smell his rotten flower, which he says smells like a dead, rotting body.
“I have been waiting so long to get this thing out there for people to smell. Me and the flower have been inside together for so long, and I was really starting to think this thing would rot away before people knew about its stinky beauty.”
Bramowitz owns and operates the local dispensary in the back of the former Family Video. Selling various herbs and spices, as well as other, more smokable products.
Ever since the Family Video shut its doors last year, the recreational drug business that Bramowitz illegally operates out of the back of the building, has been hurting.
“My business partners and I thought we had a good thing going, but what do we know, I guess. I had never heard of Netflix until the pandemic, and I assumed the whole world just did drugs now. That part of the business was doing fine. We just need people to know about our dispensary back here, because Marcos does not want to partner with us.”
For a few months, Dax has been posting about the corpse flower on his Instagram, building up anticipation, DM’ing around, asking people if they like the flower, and if they want to smell it.
“I’ve been getting a lot of responses. Everyone else feels trapped inside too, and they all really want to get out, take their masks off, and just smell things, good or bad.”
Dax will be set up behind the former Family Video, and invites everyone who wants to whiff this thing to get back here and do whatever you want with it, except touch it. The flower will be out all day Saturday, and after church lunch on Sunday until 5pm.
