TROY – Since its early beginnings in the digital space, Troy Daily News has hilariously kept the same website URL: tdn-net.com. While this was widely understood to be a joke, many locals are scratching their heads after years without change.
In the year 2019, there are several alternatives to such an outdated domain. TDN has already obtained the appropriate “troydailynews.com,” which exists for the sole purpose of redirecting users to “tdn-net.com.” Though some site visitors may be none-the-wiser, other visitors see it as a slap in the face.
“Every time I visit the site and see ‘net’ in the URL, I’m like yeah, no shit, this is in-fact, a place on the internet,” stated TDN subscriber Walter Schantz. “We don’t need to state the obvious. I’m 68 years old, and know damn-well what the internet is.”
Separate from the domain name, TDN’s website design is the modern web developer’s nightmare. With a site that looks like it was designed in 2002, TDN keeps their readers engaged with a display of laughable imagery, bleeding blues, pixelated widgets, and slow-scrolling animations. At first glance, the website appears to be from a different time – but it’s not.
If anyone out there get TDN with the times, please do. We’re holding our competitors accountable, and have made it our mission to bring awareness to proper web practices.
